In Between Surf Contests, Kelly Sltaer Wins Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland

After getting robbed (in this humble writer's opinion) in the quarters of the Quiksilver Pro France, Kelly Slater decided to play in a celebrity pro-am golf tournament called the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, held annually at The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. Slater helped his teammate Simon Dyson finish first, with their team finishing third overall.

The format of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is very similar to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where Slater has played the previous three years. Slater has been rather successful at Pebble Beach, but his team score was usually dragged down by his struggling teammate, Pat Perez. It was a different story at The Old Course, a legendary course nestled in historic St. Andrews, Scotland.

It's now back to surf business for Slater, as the Billabong Pro Mundaka kicked off earlier today. The contest is using the new format that was implemented earlier this year, which gives the top 16 an automatic first-round bye. The extra time off allowed Slater to compete in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

And yes, the misspelling of Kelly Slater's name in the title is intentional. I copied and pasted the spelling of his name off of Life Magazine's photo caption. Further proof that editors no longer exist in the publishing world. I'm also fully aware that the title is misleading. Technically speaking, Slater didn't win the tournament; his teammate won the individual title, with their team finishing third. What can I say. My bromance with the nine-time defending world champion continues.
